In the early 2000's we truly went global with a radical reworking of the classic Robert Harbin version of the chair suspension. Doing away with weird chairs (that didn't look like any chair you'd ever seen before) a weird board (with scoops and channels and cut-outs) a weird handling (that required you to do lots of suspicious movements when assembling the prop) and low weight capacities the other versions on the market were a prime example of "weird magicians prop" rather than logical choices.

We re-engineered the gimmick to create the strongest one in the world (at the launch of this version we levitated Michael Finney!) hid it in common wooden folding chairs that look so innocent you could use them all through the rest of your show and pioneered powder-coating technology to make the wood and metal parts blend seamlessly together! Instead of a weird board we crafted a ladder that serves the same function and yet looks natural and ungimmicked giving the whole illusion an air of spontaneous inventive improvisation that serves to make the effect more impressive.

It won rave reviews from the biggest names in magic at the time (Alan Shaxon - Friend of Robert Harbin & protector of the Harbin legacy) called it "A version Rob would have loved" and we went on to sell more than 1000 of them around the world. Eventually we could no longer get hold of a key component needed to manufacture them and had to retire the prop... until now. Going back to the original plans and updating the design to take advantage of an extra 2 decades of design and building experience we are proud to present the 2025 version of this effect. Expertly crafted in wood, steel, aluminium, brass and cotton this is a heavy duty prop designed for the real working performer who needs a trick they can depend on to deliver an impossible moment in the show. Get any spectator out of the audience, rest a ladder across the back of 2 folding chairs and get them to lie down and wrap them in a cloth. Take one chair away and they are impossibly balanced on a ladder, then as the applause grows you remove the ladder leaving them suspended only by their shoulders on the back of a flimsy wooden chair creating an incredible visual moment of pure wow!
